AKPOS OKUDU. SPRING/SUMMER 2009.

I Really enjoyed working on this collection.Although there was a lot of rush involved; as my(original) photographer was constantly bugging me to round up.But i had loads of fun making these dresses. This collection called 'WHIMSICAL DREAMS' consists of lots of bright and fun colours, with touches of lace, frills, bows and ruffles ; which were my major inspiration.

All the dresses have been named after strong ijaw women, afterall AKPOS OKUDU dresses are for women who are strong, elegant and confident; but still maintain their soft feminine side.  hope you like. xoxo Akpos.                                 l-r.the bibi, the serena, the ayi, which can be tied in 2 ways,as shown by the fourth model.

Hey, people.
sorry for the long absence. I've been super busy working on my spring/summer 2010 collection; can't wait to share. so WATCH OUT!!!!

WHEN IN DOUBT; BLACK OUT.(omg. that sounds so chessy.lol)
Black. There's something just so amazing about this colour; Apart from the fact that it hides a multitude of sins, it's just so easy to rock and always keeps the wearer looking effortlessly chic. A quick and easy way to keep this look fresh and updated is by keeping your outfit simple and throwing on fabulous, eye catching accessories. This colour is dissected by fashionistas, the world over and you know my Nigerian fashionistas never fail to represent.
Below are some stylish Nigerian ladies, doing justice to the colour

Hey, I'm back.
so sorry I've been away for this long. i deeply apologize. My Internet is really shitty, so it usually takes forever for me to upload pictures; the past few weeks have been quite interesting.
while in Lagos for le petite marche (May market) i meet this really nice lady who bought a dress from me. she loved it so much she called back saying she was opening a boutique in Lagos,(which would basically stock beach dresses and accessories its called beach living) anyway the point of this story is that i was asked to design a line of dresses for the shop.
so in my absence from blogs ville I've making pretty dresses. its going to be called Akpos Okudu for beach living. Hopefully my Internet behaves so i can put up the pictures of the dresses.
OK now back to Nigerian style.

lace.
I Have a penchant for dresses; long, short ,pencil
,flare, tulip, bubble, origami, be it in dreamy chiffon ,whimsical organza, tulle, satin buy especially lace.
Full on lace frocks or just dresses with bits and pieces of lace.As much as i love this fabric i have to admit its not the easiest for me to work with; however I'm going to be incorporating (not sure about that word, couldn't think of something else.) bits and pieces of lace into my next collection.
I'm in love with all kinds of lace from french,Chantilly to dry lace, Bali lace and even crochet which i consider the cousin of lace.Below are some beautiful Nigerian ladies rocking some REALLY pretty lace outfits.

Reni Folawiyo. This dress is sooo beautiful.

Zara Okpara in Jbl top.

LABEL LOVE- JEWEL BY LISA.
JBL is undoubtedly one of my favorite designers. And i don't mean favorite ''Nigerian'' designer, i mean favorite like 'favorite, favorite'. I absolutely heart how she interprets Ankara; mixing it with bits and pieces of silk and of course her signature embellishment.
In my opinion Lisa Folawiyo, the amazing lady behind JBL is (partly) responsible for all the love Ankara is receiving in Nigeria and the rest of the world; perhaps that's a huge statement to make but i don't remember any other person that worked Ankara like she has. She took Ankara from your traditional Nigerian up and down and totally made it FABULOUS.
What i think is really amazing about her label is that you can see constant improvements. It used to be all about cute jackets, dresses and shorts now its pretty much everything from pants, bad ass blazers and the likes.
Lisa folawiyo's latest collection for arise Africa fashion week was definitely my favorite.
here are some pretty outfits by JBL.

Hello! dear fab. readers; sorry I've been away for SO long. For a girl who considers her life kinda boring, the past few weeks have been rather interesting. There's constantly been one event after the other, I've had lots of dress orders to deal with, my final year project and just a bunch of other stuff; however I'm back to blogs ville.
My label AKPOS OKUDU,got featured on a couple of blogs that you really need to check out
-www.blog.sylandroc.com

Also, i was at le petite marche( a monthly flee market, which creates an avenue for new and established independent designers and entrepreneurs to network and get recognised) It was quite nice, to be able to sell so many dresses in like 6hours, and off course shop. You can read more about le petite marche on the face book group.

HEAD TO TOE PERFECT.
Nigerian women are super fabulous; i know, i know.i could say that a million times. Your probably sick of hearing it; but come on this is a blog that generally celebrates fabulous Nigerian fashion and pretty much anything fashion related.
As amazing as i consider Nigerian women stylewise, there are lots who generally go over the top with their outfits;so when i find pictures of Nigerian women that look on point you know I'm drawn to them like a complete magpie and i get super excited. The ladies below all look head to toe perfect, without going overboard. thots?
